When Emily contacted the Project, she was a carer for her father and had struggled to continue in full-time education. Emily had also suffered with both her mental and physical health, and had spent time going in and out of hospital for treatment. Despite those struggles, Emily was keen and enthusiastic about her future, and determined not to be defined by her experiences.
Emily’s goal was to attend a nail technician course which was close to home, and which would enable her to work in the health and beauty industries or to set-up as a self-employed nail technician.
Emily’s Keyworker, Olivia, sourced the perfect beauty school close to home. Emily was delighted, and soon completed a nail technician course where she learned to perform manicures, pedicures, and nail extensions, as well as massage therapies and nail art.
Emily’s family said they had never seen such enthusiasm in her before.
Reflecting on her time in the Project, Emily said, "4SX and the funding from The Big Lottery Fund and European Social Fund has meant that I could afford the Nail Technician Course, which I needed to help me prepare for my dream career.
I'm already using the training to practise my techniques on the nails of my friends and family, and soon I'll be able to start my own mini home business.
After going through my own personal struggles and adversity, this experience was just what I needed and has boosted my confidence massively. I now feel more prepared for the start of college, and the beginning of my career."
Since the project, Emily has started up her own mobile nail and beauty business in Southend-on-Sea, and will be starting on a new course at college. We wish her the very best of luck in her exciting new ventures!
